Understanding dental crowns
A crown is a covering placed over a natural tooth, or what remains of it, to bring it back to a useful size and shape. People often call it a cap. It is fixed in place. It is not a denture.
Crowns are usually considered when a filling would no longer be strong enough. The tooth is prepared, a record of the shape is taken, and the crown is fitted at a later visit. The exact steps are explained before treatment starts.
